Our Main Partner: Orphans in Africa
Our major partner in Cameroon is called Shaping Destiny Cameroon. Shaping Destiny Cameroon is located in the North West Province of Cameroon. It has two orphanages. The first has over 60 orphans and the second located in a different part of the country has less than 10 orphans. That is their new location. SD Cameroon also serves orphans through its popular Foster Care Program. The government of Cameroon doesn’t have a foster care system to care for kids and so SD Cameroon created a growing foster care program to put children in good homes where they can have a chance at life. They also serve other children by supporting them with a single mother or grandmother who is already living with the kids and can’t provide for them but can love and house them. In total, SD Cameroon serves about 600 orphans now. They admit children from 3 years to 15 years. Most of them are orphans or street children brought to the home by relatives and friends.
600 orphans is remarkable considering that SD Cameroon’s founder, Dr. Ken Acha started the organization while he was still in medical school. He began with just 3 orphans and now there are 600 currently being served! Please watch the following videos of the beginnings of SD Cameroon.

Shaping Destiny has also appeared in prestigious newspapers such as The Eagle Newspaper, The Temple Telegram, and the Waco Tribune. It has appeared on ABC and CBS TV stations a combined total of seven times.
Please note that some of the videos above are from 2006. Shaping Destiny has grown and made some changes to their website. For example, the orphans website is now called orphans360.org, their volunteer efforts are now handled by Change Volunteers and their Orphan Adoptions are through Adoption Heart, which are all sister organizations founded by Dr. Ken to make serving orphans easier and more targeted.
Please check out our adoption site to see two of our kids adopted to the U.S and living happily with their new parents and family. http://www.adoptionheart.org/testimonial
Dr. Christen LeBlanc (a surgeon in Texas and Board Member of Orphans 360) and his wife Laura adopted Halle and Jude.
That is a little bit of the history of our main partner organization in Cameroon, which is really a sister organization to Change Volunteers because they are both founded by Dr. Ken.
Watch these videos of our kids done by one of the volunteers who spent time with them volunteering for several weeks in 2011.
Note: The Suits they are wearing were a donation by a group of kind donors who wanted to treat orphans like their own kids. This is not what normally happens to them… they need a lot of help…

I hope that gives you a picture of where you would be going if you decide to volunteer with Change Volunteers. Please contact us if you have any questions. When volunteers apply and confirm their registration, we provide them with information about fundraising for the trip, getting a visa, passport and travel insurance, vaccinations and more. After a volunteer confirms their booking, we immediately assign a staff volunteer travel consultant to guide them the rest of the way. When you do your fundraising, we will be there with you and if you develop any hardships, we will try to work with you to find ways to help you succeed. It begins with you taking the step to apply and then confirm your booking.
Part of our volunteer experience is that we don’t encourage volunteers to pay the program fees out of their pocket. After they pay the registration fee, we work with them to advise them to raise the rest of the funds. People in your sphere of influence will be excited to support you to volunteer abroad. We will help you get there.
Thanks
Change Volunteer Team.

"Are you thinking about volunteering or doing missions work in a foreign country? Working with orphaned children? Making a difference? Saving some money? If so, no organization will better meet your needs and desires than Change Volunteers." Nathan Reschke, past volunteer to Cameroon.
