“By God’s amazing grace, we have had the privilege of being a part of this ministry that God is using to serve His people in Africa. What God is doing through SHAPING DESTINY has changed and is changing our lives through prayer, leadership, service, and financial giving. No matter where you are in your life, we encourage you to be a part of this wonderful ministry in one way or another.” Jonathan Walgama, MD Temple, Texas “In the words of Margaret Meade “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed...

Why is training so important?

Posted by on March 13, 2013 in Volunteer Abroad | 0 comments

Training takes time and sacrifice but we have discovered that when volunteers are well trained, they will enjoy the trip and leave a tremendous impact on the people they serve. It’s quite another thing to be able to offer them real help that local people can’t offer. Hugging them, teaching them to read, painting houses can all be done by local people better and cheaper than...

Why Volunteers Need Training

Posted by on January 8, 2013 in Volunteer Abroad | 0 comments

“First do no harm (to your patient & to yourself). Second, do good to best of your ability (get the best training possible so that you can give your patients the best possible effort).” We believe that volunteers can change the world. But this doesn’t happen at random. For a volunteer to be effective, they have to be the right person in the right place at the right time. It doesn’t matter how well educated and skillful a volunteer is. If they are not trained, they will end up hurting and not helping the volunteer...

Salary & Wages: There are two options for getting paid. You choose only one option. You can change your mind afterwords and switch options without any problem. Option 1: Receive Free Food and Room at the orphanage. The advantage of this option is that you don’t have to cook your own meals. You eat in the same auditorium as the orphans (meals are delicious) and live on the same campus as the kids. You will share a large room with one or two other volunteers of the same gender. There would be enough space because the rooms are quite...
